Set up on iPhone and iPad

  1. Open the Ping Drop app once after installing it.
  2. In Photos, select one or more photos and tap Share.
  3. Swipe the row of apps to the end and tap More.
  4. Tap Edit, add Ping Drop to Favorites, and drag it next to AirDrop.

Set up on Mac

  1. Open the Ping Drop app once after installing it.
  2. Open System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions › Sharing. On macOS 14, it's Privacy & Security › Extensions › Sharing.
  3. Turn on Ping Drop.
  4. In Photos or Finder, select images and choose Share › Ping Drop.

Questions

Why do I see a second share sheet on iPhone?

iOS doesn't let apps open the AirDrop screen directly. After converting, Ping Drop shows a share sheet for the PNG files with AirDrop and nearby devices first. Tap the device you want, just as you would with AirDrop. On a Mac, the AirDrop window opens directly.

Which photos are converted?

Every still image is converted to PNG, including HEIC, JPEG, RAW, TIFF and WebP. Animated GIFs, videos and other files are sent unchanged, because PNG can't hold animation or video.

Are my original photos changed?

No. Ping Drop makes temporary PNG copies and deletes them as soon as sharing finishes. Your originals are never modified.

Can I make the files smaller?

Yes. In the Ping Drop app, choose an Image size: Original, 75%, 50%, 25%, or fit within 4096, 2048 or 1024 pixels. You can also choose JPEG instead of PNG for much smaller files.

Can I remove location or other metadata?

Yes. In the Ping Drop app, turn off Include location to remove where a photo was taken. Turn off Include metadata to remove everything, including the capture date and camera details. Both are on by default, so converted photos match the originals.

Ping Drop doesn't appear in the share sheet

Make sure you've opened the app once, and that you're sharing at least one photo or image. On iPhone, check More at the end of the app row. On a Mac, check that the extension is turned on in System Settings, as described above.
